Ways to Pay for Therapy
Self Pay
My practice operates on a self-pay model, which means sessions are paid directly at the time of service.
By operating as a self-pay practice, I’m able to offer a concierge therapeutic experience.
This allows me to maintain:
a smaller caseload so each client receives focused care
flexible scheduling
consultation availability between sessions when needed
the freedom to approach therapy in ways that truly support nervous system regulation and healing
Rather than fitting clients into an insurance model, I am able to offer a curated therapeutic experience designed around your needs.
I have chosen not to participate in insurance panels so that the work we do together is not limited by insurance company requirements.
Many clients prefer this approach because it allows for:
greater privacy and confidentiality
no diagnosis required for insurance records
flexibility in how therapy is approached
the ability to work at a pace that supports nervous system regulation rather than insurance requirements
Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
Many clients use HSA or FSA accounts to pay for therapy.
These accounts allow you to use pre-tax dollars for mental health care, which can make therapy more financially accessible.
Out-of-Network Insurance Benefits
Even though I am not in-network with insurance panels, some clients use their out-of-network benefits.
If your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health coverage, this is how that works:
You pay for the session at the time of service.
I provide a monthly superbill to you through the client portal.
You submit the superbill to your insurance provider for reimbursement based on your policy.
Depending on the plan, clients may receive partial reimbursement for sessions.
If you would like to explore this option, you may want to ask your insurance provider:
Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?
Does my plan reimburse for out-of-network providers?
What is my deductible?
What percentage do you reimburse for CPT code 90837 (psychotherapy, 60 minutes)?
Do I have a deductible? If so, what is it and have I met it yet?
Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have? If so, what is the limit?
Do I need written approval from my primary care physician in order for services to be covered?
The Return on the Investment
Many clients initially come to therapy because something in their life has become unsustainable.
Burnout.
Anxiety.
Chronic Stress.
A sense that they have been pushing through for too long.
Somatic Experiencing® (SE™), developed by Dr. Peter Levine, is a gentle, body-based therapy that helps your nervous system recover from chronic stress. If you’d like to learn more about how this approach works, you can read more about Somatic Experiencing® therapy in Houston here.
Over time, many discover that therapy becomes one of the most meaningful investments they make in themselves.
When your nervous system becomes more regulated and resilient, you often gain:
more capacity
clearer decision-making
healthier relationships
more sustainable energy
The returns extend into every area of life.
