Getting Started with Therapy in Houston: What to Expect
Starting Therapy Doesn’t Have to Feel Overwhelming
Beginning therapy can
bring up a lot of questions.
Do I have to share everything right away?
Will I know what to say?
What if I feel overwhelmed?
You don’t need to have it all figured out before you begin.
What the First Session Is Actually Like
The first session is not an exercise in telling your entire life story.
The intake session is 90 minutes, and includes a thorough assessment where we come up with a roadmap: a plan in your own words so that as we review your progress, you can have clear, objective markers that illustrate improvement over time.
I do much of the heavy lifting. You don’t have to explain everything perfectly or have the right words. We will move at the pace your nervous system can actually tolerate, not the pace of urgency you’re used to living in.
You will always know what we’re doing and why.
This is a collaborative process, and we’ll regularly check in on what’s helping and what’s not.
A Different Kind of Therapy Experience
This is not about becoming less driven.
It’s about no longer being driven by fear.
That’s where sustainable success lives.
My goal isn’t for you to be in therapy forever; it’s to help you build the awareness and skills to care for yourself in a way that actually works in your real life.
We move at a pace your nervous system can tolerate.
Not the pace of urgency you’re used to living in.
What It Feels Like to Work Together
I’m warm, direct, and deeply attuned.
I notice the subtle shifts in your body and energy, not just your words.
We’ll laugh sometimes.
We’ll slow down often.
And we treat your stress patterns with curiosity instead of judgment.
Because healing doesn’t happen through pressure; it happens through safety.
This work is meaningful and sometimes hard.
And there’s also room for lightness along the way.
You Don’t Have to Relive Everything to Heal
Some people try to talk and “get it all out” to feel better.
It can feel cathartic in the moment, but it’s exhausting and doesn’t always create lasting change.
We work in a way that helps your nervous system integrate what happens in session, so you leave with more energy, not less.
Next Steps
If you’re considering therapy, the next step is to schedule a free, 30-minute phone consultation.
This is a simple conversation where we:
talk about what’s been feeling difficult
explore what you’d like to change
see if this approach feels like a good fit
There’s no pressure or commitment, just a place to start.
